In our dedicated video game platform business in the first quarter of the fiscal year (April through June 2026), Nintendo Switch 2 hardware maintained strong sales momentum, with sales totaling 3.82 million units. Looking at Nintendo Switch 2 software, titles such as Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, released in May, and Star Fox, released in June, performed steadily, and Pokémon Pokopia, released in the previous fiscal year (see note), also sold well, with the result that Nintendo Switch 2 software sales totaled 9.46 million units. As for Nintendo Switch, hardware sales totaled 0.66 million units. Looking at Nintendo Switch software, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, released in April, has shown strong growth with sales reaching 7.94 million units. Given that consumers can play both Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive software and Nintendo Switch software with Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch titles released in past fiscal years have also shown stable sales. As a result, Nintendo Switch software sales totaled 33.81 million units.
Turning to the digital business for our dedicated video game platforms, digital sales totaled 132.7 billion yen, up 90.0% year-on- year, mainly due to an increase in sales of downloadable versions of packaged software.
In our IP related business, sales reached 34.8 billion yen, up 107.4% year-on-year, thanks to the high level of audience engagement with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
The end result is that overall sales totaled 517.8 billion yen (with sales outside of Japan of 403.2 billion yen accounting for 77.9% of the total). Although sales decreased compared to the same period of last fiscal year, operating profit increased 150.5% year-on-year to 142.5 billion yen, due to the growth in sales of software, which accounted for a larger proportion of total sales, and the refund of IEEPA tariffs in the US, which were recorded as cost of sales in prior periods. Ordinary profit totaled 206.1 billion yen, including 30.3 billion yen in share of profit of entities accounted for using equity method, foreign exchange gains of 16.8 billion yen, and interest income of 13.1 billion yen. Profit attributable to owners of parent totaled 147.4 billion yen.
Nintendo Switch 2 is now in its second year since launch in June 2025 and sales continue to be strong. We aim to maintain the momentum for the hardware and see it delivered together with software into the hands of a wide range of consumers. The Nintendo Switch 2 software lineup added Splatoon Raiders in July, and titles scheduled for release include Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave in September, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort in October, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time also in 2026. We aim to widen the Nintendo Switch 2 installed base by working to expand sales of existing titles and continuously introducing new titles. Other software publishers also plan to release a range of titles.
For Nintendo Switch, the new title Rhythm Heaven Groove was released in July. We will work to leverage the hardware installed base and rich software lineup to expand software sales, including sales of evergreen titles, and to maintain engagement.
